Funny or tragic... you decide.

I was reading a post from a week or so ago by
gustavolacerda where he linked to the site:

With a name like this I figured it might be good for a few cheap laughs. Sure enough the lines and advice were really cheesy and before long I was laughing out loud. Some of the "techniques" were ridiculous to the point of being funny.
I was hungry and decided to make a sandwich and went out to the balcony to eat it. While enjoying my lunch I was still laughing to myself about one of the stories. Then I remembered , way, way back a time when I was at a party at university and I saw a guy actually use this "technique". He was a pretty slimy and weedy character and the girl he was hitting on was totally stunning and, we all thought, a "good girl". Much to our surprise at the time she had a one night stand with him that night. The rest of us couldn't believe it... us "nice geeks" had ever gotten anywhere with her other than "let's just be friends".
So this got me thinking a lot harder about all this and I went back to reading the site again but with a more serious level of interest. Sure enough, if I really put my mind to it and thought about all the bars and parties and clubs that I've been to and what happened, I could often come up with concrete examples where the things that the site talks about were more or less what happened. The more I thought about it the memories started to come flooding back. My experience (as a 3rd person witness usually) actually appears to back this stuff up.
Scary. Are women's brains really hardwired to mate with "alpha males"? Of course I know of exceptions, women who don't just have a fling with any old smooth alpha male character that they meet. But usually even with these women, while they might not give into it, you can see that there is something deep in their psyche that is responding to the attention that this confident strong well-dressed male is giving them. And these girls are the exception. When a guy who really seems to know what he's doing turns on the charm 99% of women just melt. I've seen many guys like this, and guys trying to fake it... women hate the latter with a passion. But the guys who are good at it (and some of them aren't all that good looking either, or successful in other areas of their life) are just amazing in their ability to drive women crazy.
I really do NOT want to believe this!<\bf> It just seems so wrong that something like this could be reduced to primitive caveman like desires to mate with alpha males. I know women who have protested that this isn't true in the slightest, but I've also seen these same women turn into gushing teenage girls in the face of a guy who struck me as being slimy and clearly less than honest. "Oh, he was soooo charming and sexy" they would say to me afterwards. A really skilled "player" I was thinking.
I really don't want to believe this. But after 30 years I've seen far too much evidence.
